Talk show host Drew Barrymore's sensitive approach to guests didn't sit well with Martha Stewart on Tuesday. The Tutor songstress seemed extremely uncomfortable when Barrymore started stroking her arms and back during the interview, leading to Stewart physically pushing her away.
“You're the wrong gender,” Stewart said.
Martha Stewart appeared on Barrymore's syndicated talk show on Tuesday to promote her latest cookbook. At one point, Barrymore approached Stewart and asked if there was anything that made her feel “soft and gooey.”
Mr. Stewart seemed confused and repeated his question. Barrymore then began touching Stewart's shoulders. “It's a soft, sticky treatment,” Barrymore said. “When treated as a woman”
When Barrymore began stroking her arm and back, Stewart awkwardly replied, “Yes, that's nice.”
Stewart then shoved Barrymore and cut her off, saying, “You're the wrong gender.”
This incident reinforced the public perception that Martha Stewart was callous and hostile to intimate relationships.
It also highlighted Barrymore's tendency to frequently invade guests' private spaces by touching them or sitting on their laps.
Martha Stewart, now 82, is the subject of a new Netflix documentary that delves into her personal life and business success. It also depicts her imprisonment in 2004 for lying about trading ImClone stock.
