Democratic New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who announced Friday that he will run for governor in 2025, signaled the need to “stand up” to President-elect Donald Trump after the “terrible” election results.
Gottheimer, who entered a crowded Democratic field in the New Jersey gubernatorial race, called Trump's victory “a terrible loss for America.”
“Let's pause for a moment. The election results were a terrible loss for America. Every candidate running for governor agrees,” he said Friday at a South Hackensack diner.
“We need to stand up to Trump,” he said.

Gottheimer cited President Trump's positions on abortion, the environment and gun safety as “key issues” for the president-elect.
“When it comes to key issues from health care to the environment to gun safety, all candidates share the same goals, and when it comes to the issue of abortion rights, we all stand behind President Trump and his extremist attacks on women's health care.” I will take a stand,” he said. “We have to bring Law back.”

After pledging to “stand up” to Trump, the representative for New Jersey's 5th Congressional District said his main priority as governor would be to reduce costs for New Jerseyans.
“But there is another issue that defines who I am and what I fight for,” he said. “Jersey is currently the fourth most expensive state to live in the country, and unlike everyone else in this election, I am laser-focused on the need to lower taxes and lower costs. ”
