Two New York State patrol cars hit by drunk driver while troopers investigated another drunk driver

A police officer in two New York State Police patrol cars was hit by a drunk driver while investigating another drunk driving incident.

Late Friday night, officers were investigating a 2018 GMC Arcadia that crashed into a Department of Transportation light tower in a work zone. According to the release.

The officers were in their respective patrol cars near the Babylon exit on the eastbound Southern State Parkway when one of the parked cars was rear-ended by a gray 2004 Toyota Rav 4.

The first car then crashed into the other police car parked in front of it.

Officers went to the aid of the civilians involved in the accident, but later realized they themselves had sustained minor injuries.

All involved were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Jaikaran Ramlokum, 73, is charged with driving under the influence.

Jared Robinson, 32, who caused the initial stop, was also found to have been driving under the influence, but it's unclear what charges he faced.
