Start White House Press Briefings with a Prayer

Breitbart News senior editor Joel B. Pollack told former Gov. Mike Huckabee this weekend that White House press conferences should begin with a short address and a moment of quiet reflection.

Pollack was in attendance. huckabee show The program aired on TBN days after Huckabee was announced as President-elect Trump's nominee for U.S. ambassador to Israel.

The two discussed President Trump's opportunities for peace in the Middle East and Pollack's new book. Agenda: What should President Trump do in his first 100 days?has received renewed attention since President Trump's victory.

Huckabee asked Pollack about some of the “highlights.” agenda.

Among other ideas, Pollack described a prayer proposal to begin White House press conferences. Press conferences are the most-watched public meetings in the world, but unlike other meetings, they do not begin with a prayer.

In a 2021 article, Pollack also suggested prayer texts.

O Lord our God:

We pray as follows.

Congratulations to the President and First Lady of the United States.

Blessings to the men and women of the military.

Congratulations to the members of the press corps.

And their families.

Our deliberations today will proceed in a spirit of unity so that together we can inform the people of this Republic.

We thank you for the life you give us every day and the freedom you give each of us.

And we say: Amen.

Here we observe a moment of reflection. Use this if necessary.

(pause)

thank you.

Pollack explained the idea to Huckabee:

Mr. Pollack said:

The President must be at the forefront of restoring the faith, the religious faith, of this country…I believe he can turn the “pulpit” back into a “bully pulpit.”

I have long argued, for example, that a press secretary can begin a press conference with a short call and a moment of silence. There's nothing in the constitution to prevent that, it would change the atmosphere. [Applause]And I think this will also serve as a role model. Because we believe that within the First Amendment, we can still introduce that moment of reflection…so that children and adults can bring God back into their school lives and work hours. That day… it's missing from our lives and we feel its absence… and I think it will help re-center our country and we can come together.

It will definitely change the atmosphere in the press briefing room between reporters and press secretaries. They're going to be at odds with each other, but I think it could be really different if they understood that maybe we're all in the same business here.

“That's a great idea. I've never heard anyone suggest it,” Huckabee responded, adding that he hopes future press secretaries will adopt the practice.
