Bill Clinton says he 'still' believes US will have 'female president pretty soon'

Former President Clinton said in an interview broadcast Sunday that she believes the United States will have a female-led executive branch “soon.”

“I still think we're going to have a female president soon,” Clinton said in an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning's Tracy Smith.

Vice President Harris recently lost the White House election to President-elect Trump, but had she won, she would have become the first woman, Black woman, and person of South Asian descent to hold the office of president. Mr. Clinton's wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, would also have become the first woman to hold the office of president had she won in 2016.

Hillary Clinton and Harris faced off against Trump in their respective campaigns. But he beat them both.

In an interview with Tracy Smith, the former president said he believed “it would probably be easy for a conservative Republican woman to win the presidency” and said the country was “moving to the right.”

“If Hillary had been nominated in 2008, I think she would have won just like Obama,” Clinton said in an interview.

Clinton campaigned in support of Harris during past elections, but at an event for Harris in late October, she defended Israel's killing of civilians and accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields. His statement that he was doing so drew criticism.
