President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will nominate former Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra to serve as ambassador to Canada.
“I am very pleased to announce that former Ambassador and former Congressman Pete Hoekstra has been appointed U.S. Ambassador to Canada. ,” President Trump said in a statement.
“He represented Michigan's 2nd District in Congress for nearly 20 years, served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and made significant contributions to our campaigns as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.”
The president-elect said Hoekstra would further support his policies by overhauling past trade agreements such as NAFTA.
