Father Of Georgia School Shooter Pleads Not Guilty To Second-Degree Murder, Involuntary Manslaughter Charges

Collin Gray, the father of Georgia school shooter Colt Gray, pleaded not guilty Thursday to numerous charges, including second-degree murder and manslaughter.

The charges allege Gray's involvement in the September shooting at Apalachee High School by his son that killed four people.

Gray did not appear in court, but his attorney, Jimmy Berry, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Collin Gray was indicted by a Barrow County grand jury on 29 charges, including second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, manslaughter and reckless conduct, according to court records.

Collin's indictment marks the first time in Georgia history that a parent of a school shooting suspect has been indicted.

According to reports, she gave the firearm to her son because she had already been informed by law enforcement authorities that her son had been posting threats online. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office interviewed the Gray family in May 2023 after the FBI received a tip from a chat forum user. Officers told Colin that her son had been threatening to carry out a possible mass shooting at the middle school.

During the interview, Colt “expressed concern that someone was accusing him of threatening to shoot up a school and stated that he would never say something like that, even in jest,” court documents reveal.

Additionally, prosecutors argue that Collin Gray was aware of his son's obsession with school shootings, but failed to take appropriate action to prevent them. , which reportedly included a shrine to Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator of the 2018 Parkland school shooting.

Colt, 14, was arrested and charged as an adult and now faces 55 charges, including four counts of felony murder and four counts of malice murder.

September 4thth Two students and two teachers were killed in the shooting, and nine others were seriously injured in the violent attack. The victims were identified as 14-year-old Christian Angulo, 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall, and 53-year-old Christina Irimy.

“It's even harder to think and accept that someone who may have done something like this when the FBI knew his true identity could have done this. He was injured right across the room from me. I lost a coach, a classmate, a friend,” said 15-year-old student Isaiah Fuchs. “I feel like that guy shouldn't have been around the school. His threats should have been included on his record or something. They shouldn't have allowed him to do something like this.” We knew this was going to happen and this should have been stopped.”

Colt also pleaded not guilty in October, canceling his formal arraignment, and both Grays were scheduled to return. 4 days courtth of December.
