The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that it had killed the head of a rocket unit of the Iranian-backed terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which operates in the Gaza Strip and took part in the October 7 attack.
The IDF and the Israel Security Agency (ISA, Shin Bet, and Shabak) reported in a joint statement:
Last week (Wednesday), the IAF carried out an attack based on IDF and ISA intelligence to eliminate terrorist Khalid Abu Dhaka, commander of the Islamic Jihad Rocket Force. Khalid Abu Dhaka was working within the humanitarian zone of Deir el-Bala in the central Gaza Strip.
Abu Dhaka was responsible for leading and carrying out numerous attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. Starting on October 7, Abu Dhaka directed rocket attacks against communities in southern Israel.
Prior to the airstrike, a number of measures were taken to reduce civilian casualties, including the use of precision weapons, intelligence operations, and aerial surveillance.
The IDF and ISA will continue to target those who take part in terrorist activities against Israeli civilians in order to achieve their war objectives.
Israeli military radio added that five other terrorists were killed in the airstrike.
Palestinian terrorists frequently exploit humanitarian zones to protect their bases of operations, such as hospitals and schools.
