Pro-life vs. abolition: Which way will the church go?

Although pro-life and abolitionists claim to have exactly the same goals, there are clear differences. Jeff Durbin of Apologia Church calls himself the latter, and for good reason.

“There is a difference. This is what everyone who identifies as pro-life needs to hear. When you see or hear the term 'pro-life,' it just means 'for life.' “I'm pro-life. I'm not pro-choice, I'm not pro-abortion. I'm pro-life,” Durbin explains. “So there's nothing wrong with the term. We're not going to denounce it like a typical Christian who stands in the pews and says, 'I'm pro-life.'

“They just think, 'We're going to abolish abortion, we're going to end this injustice.'” They don't know what's going on. There are many pastors in the background who are also unaware of this. “There's a difference between the pro-life establishment, the pro-life industry, and the average Christian who says, 'I'm pro-life,'” he continues.

Durbin told Dees that the pro-life establishment and the pro-life industry “are the greatest organization.” [enemies] To abolish abortion in our country now. ”

“People on the establishment side are proud. They're proud of the fact that they're not approaching this issue from a Christian perspective,” he explains.

“They're approaching it from a biological perspective. In other words, they'll say things like, 'If we can prove to the world that what's inside the womb is a human being through fertilization; If we can show the mothers their babies and their hearts beating and their babies moving around, they can win.'' “I don't want to kill these babies anymore.''

“Assuming their motives are good, they think this is a matter of critical evidence. And you would say this is actually a matter of authority,” Diese said. He comments.

“I say it's a question of authority, a question of worldview, and ultimately a question of sin,” Durbin replies. “We are in a country where people like the idea that a mother can execute her child in the womb at will, that she has the freedom to do so and that it is a moral right. That’s noble. That’s good.”

“So the issue of abortion in our country, according to the Christian worldview, according to the Word of God, is ultimately an issue of sin. It is not an issue of lack of evidence or lack of light. ” he continues.

Durbin acknowledges that forcing women to have abortions is of course a big problem, but says the pro-life establishment's position on abortion sustains it “by denying children equal protection.” I believe it.

“So, the problem is sin. The problem is rebellion. Child sacrifice is a very serious sin that has existed throughout human history. So, in order to obtain blessings and economic prosperity, people sometimes take children with them. and threw it into the fire,” he explained, adding, “It's as old as the hills.”

“The ruling class says, 'We cannot approach this problem by the word of God or by the authority of Christ.' We cannot call people to repentance and faith. We cannot say things like this about the gospel. “I can’t,” he continues. “So the abolitionists say, 'The Christian message here is, first and foremost, this is a sin against God.' God wants justice for these children. ” God’s standards are very clear here. ”
