The UNLV Rebels were hoping for better conditions heading into the punt, but then the unthinkable happened.
With just over a minute left in the second quarter of Friday night's game against San Jose State, UNLV went into punt formation from its own 47-yard line, but called a timeout to try and get a dry ball in the pouring rain. For snaps.
No one can blame the coach because of the errant snap earlier.

A dry ball came onto the field, but considering the rain, it didn't stay there for very long.
Now, the Rebels were back in punt formation, and the first bounce was near the 25-yard line when the snap went to the punter.
The ball continued to roll inside the 10-yard line toward the end zone, and after the punter bobbled the ball twice, it eventually rolled across the end zone, resulting in a safety.
“Maybe they should have played wet ball,” color commentator Petros Papadakis said.
Granted, the ball was still somehow wet, but it's hard to imagine that this time the ball was as wet as the previous one.
The snap gave the Spartans a 16-10 lead, but it was actually the last point they would score.

The 24th-ranked Rebels finished the game with 17 unanswered points and won 27-16 despite the accident. The victory in the rain improved the score to 9-2.
