Maryland man found guilty of killing girlfriend, unborn baby in county’s first-ever conviction of its kind

A Maryland man has been found guilty of killing his girlfriend and her unborn child, marking the first time in Montgomery County history that a defendant has been convicted of killing a viable fetus.

A jury on Friday found Torrey Moore, 33, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his pregnant girlfriend Denise Middleton and her unborn child.

Moore was also found guilty of two counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony, one count of assault on a pregnant woman, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. ABC7 Reported.

Prosecutors said they showed surveillance footage of Middleton, who was eight and a half months pregnant, when she was last seen alive. Fox 5 DC. The video was taken from the elevator at Moore's apartment on October 9, 2022, and the couple was seen together shortly before Moore died.

Investigators believe Moore then shot 26-year-old Middleton seven times.

Middleton's body was found in Moore's apartment in an advanced state of decomposition.

Moore faces a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 28.

The double murder is related to another crime for which he was convicted in May. A sentencing hearing in the case, in which he killed a gas station employee and could carry a life sentence, is scheduled for February 20.

The next day, Montgomery County police found Middleton's body when they showed up at Moore's apartment in the 11000 block of Oakleaf Drive in Silver Spring to serve an arrest warrant.
