Israel says UAE authorities found Rabbi Zvi Kogan dead: ‘Antisemitic terrorism’

Israeli authorities on Sunday confirmed the death of an Abu Dhabi rabbi who had been missing since Thursday.

“The UAE intelligence and security services have discovered the body of Zvi Kogan, who has been missing since Thursday, November 21, 2024,” Israel's Prime Minister's Office and Foreign Ministry said in a statement on X. Abu Dhabi has been in contact with his family since the beginning of the event and continues to support him during this difficult time; his family in Israel has also been kept updated. ”

“The monumental murder of Tzvi Kogan is an abhorrent act of anti-Semitic terrorism. The State of Israel will use all means possible to deal with the criminals responsible for his death to the fullest extent of the law.” the statement added.

After Ravi went missing, there were concerns that he had been kidnapped and murdered by terrorists, prompting an investigation.

Rabbi Zvi Kogan was an emissary of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, a prominent and highly observant branch of Hasidic Judaism based in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City.

The 28-year-old was a resident of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, when he went missing on Thursday. He is a citizen of both Moldova and Israel.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office on Saturday announced an investigation into the unusual disappearance. A statement at the time said the disappearance appeared to be related to a “terrorist incident” but did not elaborate.

The UAE Interior Ministry confirmed that it was investigating Kogan's disappearance, but only described his nationality as a “Moldovan citizen.”

Kogan's kosher grocery store Limon Market on Dubai's busy Al Wasl Road closed on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. It had been a target of anti-Israel protests.

Mr. Kogan's wife, Rivky, is a U.S. citizen who lived with Mr. Kogan in the United Arab Emirates. She is the niece of Rabbi Gabriel Holtzberg, who was killed in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
