The rivalry began again on Saturday between Appalachian State University and James Madison University with an added twist.
The Dukes headed to snow-covered Boone, North Carolina, for their annual team competition.
The field was all empty for play, but there were still piles of white stuff in the stands, which fans took advantage of.

As the Dukes entered the field through the tunnel, Mountaineers fans pelted the players with snowballs.
Some players didn't seem to mind at all, and some even seemed encouraged by the attack.
But Appalachian State fans may have had a better plan, as the Mountaineers won 34-20.
Joey Aguilar threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns, and Ahmani Marshall ran for 108 yards in the win.

Aguilar scored a 4-yard touchdown to Eli Wilson and a 64-yard touchdown to Makai Jackson to lead the Mountaineers (5-5, 3-4 Sun Belt) with 1:23 left in the half. That tied the score.
After forcing the Dukes to punt, App State came up with a blocked punt that Michael Hetzel returned 9 yards for a touchdown, giving the Mountaineers a permanent lead with 40 seconds left before intermission. .
The loss eliminates James Madison (8-3, 4-3) from a chance to represent the East in the conference championship game.

It's been nearly a year since the game in which the Mountaineers ruined James Madison's perfect season, as the Dukes considered legal action after being ruled ineligible for a bowl game. .
