Khanna: Bondi's remarks about investigating investigators 'concerning'

California Rep. Ro Khanna (D) says President-elect Trump's new attorney general pick, Pam Bondi, has made “concerning” comments about the investigation of those who investigated Trump's various legal battles. said that he had done so.

Khanna joined CNN's Jim Acosta on Monday to ask about Bondi's comments and concerns that Trump's nominee for attorney general would use the Justice Department to go after his enemies. .

“Yes, they are concerned,” Khanna said of Bondi's comments. “And I think she should be asked these questions at a hearing.”

All of President Trump's nominees still require Senate confirmation.

Bondi served as a senior adviser on President Trump's first impeachment defense team and is currently an attorney at Ballard Partners, a group founded by Florida lobbyist Brian Ballard, a former chairman of Trump's 2016 victory. Bondi was Trump's second choice for attorney general.

Bondi appeared on Fox News in 2023 and called for an investigation into prosecutors who “weaponized” the legal system against Trump.

“The Department of Justice, the bad prosecutors will be prosecuted. The agents will be investigated because the deep state was in the shadows during President Trump's last term,” she said. “But now the spotlight is on them and everyone is being investigated.”

She also called out Special Counsel Jack Smith and other prosecutors who prosecuted “terrible” people who were trying to make a name for themselves by “weaponizing our legal system” against President Trump.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) was President Trump's first choice for attorney general, but sexual misconduct allegations and a House Ethics Committee report narrowed his chances. He withdrew his name from the nomination list last week, but Bondi was nominated shortly thereafter.

Khanna insisted he wanted the election results to show that Americans “want to turn the page.”

“They want to focus on solving the problems of inflation, food and rent costs, and safe borders with humane immigration policies,” Khanna said. “That's why they chose President Trump.”
