Biden-Harris Administration Threatening Israel into Accepting Ceasefire in Lebanon

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL — The Biden-Harris administration is threatening to force Israel to accept a 60-day ceasefire in Lebanon to prevent the U.N. Security Council from invoking it instead, threatening sanctions if Israel does not comply. It is said that there are.

The allegations emerged as the Israeli government reportedly prepares to accept a US-brokered deal. This agreement is not guaranteed to restore security to communities in northern Israel, which is the fundamental reason Israel is fighting.

According to reports, a ceasefire could be accepted as early as Tuesday night. An Israeli government official told Breitbart News on Monday that Israel is very likely to accept the current deal, and so is Lebanon.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hezbollah will withdraw from the border north of the Litani River, which was already required by UN Security Council Resolution 1701 of 2006, which ended the Second Lebanon War. It is as it is.

With the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lebanese forces will have 60 days to redeploy across the region. Israel reserves the right to respond to any attempt by Hezbollah to return to the region.

Compliance will be monitored by a new national commission led by the United States. This is perhaps more powerful than the current failed surveillance system run by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Israelis' initial reactions suggest they are uncomfortable with the deal.

One resident of the northern community of Kfar Brum told Israeli Army Radio on Monday that he wanted more than peace guarantees on paper and did not want his children to go to war again in Lebanon within 15 years. , he said.

Hezbollah apparently retains the ability to fire dozens of rockets a day at Israel, and there are vast areas in southern Lebanon that the IDF has not yet cleared.

As Hezbollah retreats across southern Lebanon, some Israelis believe the White House is simply looking for an opportunity to damage Israel in its first weeks in office, as President Barack Obama did in 2016. I doubt it.

But the proposed deal is far better than the one Hezbollah demanded earlier this year, in which Israel would withdraw from Gaza without hostages and the Israel Defense Forces would withdraw troops from the Israeli border near Lebanon.

Furthermore, given the threat of action at the United Nations and the fact that the United States is withholding critical weapons and equipment, the Biden-Harris administration may have left Israel with no choice.

era of israel reported:

Israel decided it had no choice but to accept the cease-fire due to concerns that the US administration could punish it with a UN Security Council resolution in its final weeks, officials claimed.

Israel also lacks the capabilities needed from the United States, including: 134 D9 bulldozerssaid the official.

Although the United Nations has little credibility, the Security Council remains powerful. Sanctions imposed on Israel as a result of non-compliance with binding ceasefire resolutions are extremely costly and difficult to reverse.

Israel would certainly prefer to face pressure from the United States to comply with the ceasefire rather than pressure from the Security Council. And the United States will be more likely to pressure Lebanon and Hezbollah to comply than the United Nations.

Breitbart News has also learned that the D9 shortage is particularly problematic. The IDF uses bulldozers to clear the area around the suspected terrorist building. Without them, troops would be further exposed to enemy fire.

The Biden-Harris administration may also be trying to achieve a ceasefire before leaving office, with reports saying it plans to use the ceasefire in Lebanon to also advance a major diplomatic objective: a ceasefire with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It is reported that there is.

Some Israelis are wondering whether they should just wait until President Donald Trump takes office in January. However, there are two problems with this. One is the huge economic loss caused by the war. Reservists have been forced to take time off from work for months at a time, international travel has been halted and there is a de facto trade embargo.

Another problem is that Israel has no recourse if the second Trump administration imposes a weak ceasefire. Israel will not be able to wait four years for a better deal with the next government. Trump is perhaps the most pro-Israel president in U.S. history, but he has promised to end the war in Lebanon and is winning over new Arab and Muslim voters who will hold him accountable.

The best strategy for Israel is to accept a 60-day ceasefire now, knowing that President Trump is keen to remedy Biden's perceived failures, and then renegotiate a better deal. It might be something to do.

Additionally, experts told Breitbart News that no deal will guarantee Israel's security until there is a major political change on the other side, such as an end to Iran's support for Hezbollah or a political change in Lebanon. he said.

Regardless of whether a ceasefire is reached in Lebanon, Israel is already bracing for a prolonged regional conflict. The Israeli parliament (Knesset) is currently considering a bill that would extend soldiers' reserve duty until next year.

Israel's best hope is that under the new US administration, which is likely to give Israel a free hand in the fight against its main enemy, it will now suspend fighting and wait for Lebanon's recovery, while also fighting against Iran. Might be to plan more aggressive pressure.
