The White House has confirmed that President Joe Biden and his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, will attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, scheduled for January.
White House press secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement that Joe Biden had previously “committed.”attend According to CBS News, there will be an “inauguration ceremony” no matter which candidate wins the 2024 presidential election.
Bates noted that Biden views Trump's attendance at the inauguration as an “important demonstration of commitment” to the country's “democratic values.”
“The president has promised that the person who wins the election will attend the inauguration,” Bates said in a statement. “He and the first lady intend to keep that promise and attend the inauguration. He said this will demonstrate respect for democratic values and the will of the people as it continues an orderly and effective transition. I think this is important evidence.”
The confirmation that the Bidens would attend President Trump's inauguration came after President Trump announced that he would not attend Biden's inauguration in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.
“To everyone who asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” Trump wrote in a post on X (then known as Twitter).
Bates added that Chief of Staff Jeff Zients has “met numerous times” with Susie Wiles, Trump's recent chief of staff choice. Wiles previously served as Trump's campaign manager.
