A law enforcement source who spoke to Breitbart Texas said officers called for assistance from the Mexican Army and National Guard, but none responded to the scene. According to information released by the Tamaulipas state government, no police officers were injured in the attack.
The attack came days after three Tamaulipas state police officers were killed and five others sustained various injuries in a series of ambushes near Reynosa and San Fernando, Tamaulipas state. In these attacks, the Mexican National Guard also did not appear as reinforcements during the attacks. Immediately after the shooting, Mexican government officials insisted that the killings did not cause real concern and that the state was safe.
Violence continues, with almost daily gunfights occurring in the area between Reynosa, Rio Bravo and San Fernando. In recent days, armed groups have left piles of bodies and other gruesome crime scenes in and around Reynosa.
