Bannon blames McConnell for Gaetz withdrawal as Trump AG

Steve Bannon, a key ally and former aide to President-elect Trump, blames Senate Mitch for his decision to withdraw from deliberations after former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) was tapped to lead the Justice Department. He blamed it on the Republican leader. McConnell (Kentucky).

The devil must be given his due.'' Bannon told The Dispatch's Michael Warren, referring to McConnell, that Republicans are working hard to ensure that key nominees are appointed and confirmed when Trump returns to the White House in January. He also argued that there was a need to “be more proactive”.

“I think we have to be more aggressive. I think [the transition] We have to be more aggressive,” he said in an interview published Tuesday. Highlighted by Mediaite.

“[Trump] The controversial candidates chosen have been too controversial and fairly controversial to be accepted by the traditionally obscured standard-stock Republican establishment, the Republican establishment order that still infests the Senate. “It includes a few controversial Democrats, but they're not going to just sit there and say, 'Oh, this is great,'” he added.

He went on to call establishment Republicans, including the Kentucky senator, “anti-populist and anti-economic nationalists.”

“And they're going to show the donor base that they actually report to that they can stop Trump, and they're going to try to stop Trump in the United States Senate,” Bannon said.

The Republican strategist said the Republican Party needs to send a strong signal to outliers that they may be challenged in future elections.

“We have to develop candidates now and let them know. [let] They know that if they don't come out and support President Trump's nominee every day on these shows, they're going to win the primary,” Bannon said in an interview Tuesday.

Gaetz has come under intense scrutiny in previous investigations by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the House Ethics Committee over extensive sex trafficking investigations, sexual misconduct and allegations of illegal drug use. Although the Florida Republican denies any wrongdoing.

After meeting with Republican senators amid pressure from the Ethics Committee to make the report publicly available, Gaetz announced his decision to withdraw his name, saying he did not want to interfere with other candidates. In response to the news, Bannon said the move was a “fatal blow” to the incoming Trump administration.

“Today we made a sacrifice. One of the greatest warriors we have, in all his imperfections. Just as Donald Trump is imperfect, just as Stephen K. Bannon is super imperfect. And he's also totally imperfect,” he said on the War Room podcast. .

“They're very, very, very imperfect instruments. But that imperfection is part of their power,” Bannon later added.

The president-elect then nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to the post in her place.

Gaetz resigned from Congress following Trump's resignation and won re-election to his Florida seat earlier this month. However, he said he has no intention of returning to parliament in the next session.
