CNN contributor has wild reaction after Scott Jennings cites CNN during heated segment

CNN contributor Kari Champion cited a study by fellow contributor Scott Jennings reported by CNN that said X has become more politically balanced since Elon Musk bought the social media platform. He then accused the network of pushing fake news.

A panel on “CNN News Night with Abby Phillip” airing Monday. discussed It's unclear whether it was a good idea or even possible for Musk, who already owns Company X, to buy MSNBC while parent company Comcast is considering spinoffs of multiple channels.

“So, are you concerned that certain news organizations will become propaganda outlets for political ideologies? Isn’t that already happening on a large scale in this country? I heard what you're saying: I saw this study: It's the most ideologically balanced user platform right now,” Jennings told Champion.

“Now, this new overall composition is a better fit for the overall electorate.”

“Oh, come on, Scott. Scott, stop. It's too early. I just sat down. I've only been here two minutes. I can't say that,” the champion replied.

Champion and guest host Audie Cornish demanded that Jennings provide sources to support his statements.

“We covered it on this network!” Jennings said.

“That's not accurate, and you know it,” the champion retorted.

“Let's look at it another way. The site has fundamentally changed, hasn't it? So whether you think the voice is somehow more balanced, that's fine. But it's clear that Mr. Musk's influence is profound. “We definitely opened that up and now we accept Mr. Musk's views and he's part of this administration,” Cornish said of the issues with the platform.

When one panelist asked if people would have the same concerns if billionaire Bill Gates wanted to buy MSNBC, Champion interjected, “No, because he's sane.”

The report Jennings referred to was published by Harry Enten, the network's senior political data reporter. In 2022, the platform then called Twitter was primarily used by Democrats to watch news. Political affiliation is now more even, with 48% of users identifying as Democrats and 47% of users identifying as Republicans.

“This new overall composition is a much better fit for the electorate as a whole,” Enten said in a report last week.
