Buc’s Baker Mayfield Sues Father, Accuses Him of Stealing $12 Million

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is suing his father, Mayfield, for stealing $12 million.

Bucks QB claim James Mayfield's company, Canwood Capital, transferred the amounts from Mayfield and his wife's accounts “without their permission” between 2018 and 2021, Fox News reported.

The Bakers also claim that James agreed to repay half of the settlement agreed to in January, but has made no effort to pay since then.

The new lawsuit claims James didn't pay the first $250,000 that was due in September.

“As plaintiffs begin to disclose defendants' illegal conduct and demand answers that explain the expropriation of their assets, defendants seek to conceal relevant information, evade plaintiffs' questioning, and provide fictitious explanations for their actions. “He attempted to fabricate the story…” the filing states.

“It is now clear that Defendants did not intend to make Plaintiff whole when they entered into the Settlement Agreement,” the lawsuit continues. “To date, Canwood Capital has not repaid a single dollar under the settlement agreement, defendants have failed to refinance existing loans, and defendants have not provided plaintiffs with access to their books and records… In other words, the defendants have not fulfilled any of their obligations and have refused to respond to any of the plaintiffs' advances regarding these violations.

The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, Austin.

Mayfield signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Buccaneers last year after successfully fulfilling a one-year deal before that.

The Bucs quarterback recently used some of his newfound wealth to support local high schools. When he learned that Space Coast High School's football team in Cocoa, Florida, was in dire need of new equipment, he donated nearly $20,000 to the school.
