Grint was ordered to pay the amount in 2019, according to the Associated Press. UK Tax OfficeHM Revenue and Customs examined his tax returns for the 2011-2012 tax year.
Grint and representatives from Revenue and Customs Administration did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's requests for comment.
IRS officials alleged that Grint falsely claimed about $5.7 million in residual proceeds from the “Harry Potter” films, which included revenue from DVD sales, television broadcasts and streaming rights, as capital assets rather than income. . According to the Associated Press, the tax rate is much higher.

Grint's lawyers initially appealed the ruling, but after years of back-and-forth, a judge ruled against him this week, the Associated Press reported.
Judge Harriet Morgan said the money was “substantially all of its value derived from Mr Grint's activities” and was “taxable as income”.
In 2021, Grint spoke about his time filming the Harry Potter series, revealing that he felt “suffocated” at times.
