Detective Gregory Pollock didn't want to tell his wife that his friends Roger and Melissa Broomle were shot in the head in front of their Kansas home.

“I was home when I got the call, so I knew the address right away,” Pollock told Fox News Digital. “I was sitting there with my wife and I didn't want to say anything to her because I wanted to get out there first. But I'll tell you, I was overwhelmed. This is hard. I knew it was going to be an incident.”

The 2013 execution-style murder was investigated in Oxygen's true crime series “A Plan to Kill.” This film examines the true story of a deranged murderer who spends weeks, months, and even years planning the murder of his victims.

The program features new interviews with investigators who worked on the case and loved ones of those killed.

“This is a case that didn't go to trial, so there are still parts that the community doesn't know about,” Pollock said. “There was activity by law enforcement that people didn't know was going on. There was action by suspects that people didn't know was going on. We felt it was a good opportunity to talk about what happened. ”

The Brumls are described as a “loving couple” who are eager to become parents. That dream became a reality when they adopted brothers Anthony “Tony” and Christopher “Chris” Brummell as young children.

“Roger and Melissa were pillars of the community,” Pollock explained. “They cared for each other and were fun to be around.

“I've known Roger for several years. He loved to joke and tell stories. He was the kind of person you could hear laughs from across the room. And Melissa had a heart of gold. She helped us wherever we needed help.'' They were two wonderful people who watched our family grow. ”

As Tony and Chris grew up, they seemed to thrive with the Bruml family. In high school, they excelled in wrestling and football.

“We were there when they were first adopted,” Pollock said. “I still remember the conversations I had with Roger and Melissa. They were excited about the fact that there was food on the table and they could eat whenever they wanted. As the boys grew up, a respect for them developed. Roger and Melissa played sports and understood the rules of the house. ”

Everything changed when Tony got involved with “the wrong group of friends” during his senior year, Pollock said. According to Oxygen, Tony got into a fight with his parents after he was caught smoking marijuana.

The 18-year-old exhibited “violent behavior” and was eventually removed from the home, according to court documents. of ark valley news He reported making a living by working at a fast food restaurant, spending time with friends, and selling marijuana.

When the group ran out of money, they returned to Wichita, Kansas, according to court documents.

Along the way, Schaberg reportedly said multiple times that the Brumls should be killed so that he, Tony, and Chris could be reunited as a family. Ms Schaberg is believed to have been angry that Chris wanted “nothing to do with her”. She blamed the Brumls, who she believed had turned her son against her.

“I think Kisha is a master manipulator, a master manipulator,” Pollock said. “I think she was able to manipulate everyone involved, not just Tony. She used a number of very skilled manipulation techniques and was successful. She sold everything she sold to young men. I was led to believe…she was pure evil.”

According to the episode, Tony wanted his mother's approval, but often complained to Schaberg about the Bruml family and their harshness. He said he was angry that his brother had been kicked out of the house when he seemed to be doted on.

By the time they arrived in Kansas, they had already made plans to kill the Brumls, according to court documents. However, Smith reportedly grew cold and recruited his friend Andrew Ellington to replace him.

Smith claimed that Tony had chosen the date of November 15, 2013. Chris was away at a wrestling match that night. The plan was for Tony to go out to dinner with the Brumls and kick them out of the house. When they return, the Bruml family will be killed as if the robbery had gone awry.

According to reports, Toni believed that if the couple died, he would receive a large inheritance and would ultimately be able to be with his biological mother forever.

“Throughout 2013, we talked with Melissa and Roger about all the issues we had with Tony,” Pollock said. “They were looking for help and solutions. We also talked about different things they could try. Until last week… they were wondering if he was too sick because of the drugs he was bringing into the house. I believed it was a threat.”

“Melissa stopped by and told me that Tony was in town,” Pollock continued. “She was still nervous about what would happen after we met. But he wanted to meet and go to dinner. He also needed a copy of his birth certificate. That night, including me, we spent about an hour… “I talked to her,” my wife Melissa said, letting me know how dinner went. ”

On the evening of November 15th, Tony went out to dinner with the Blums family. Meanwhile, Schaberg and Ellington entered the house. They opened dresser drawers and removed small items to make it look like a robbery.

According to court documents, Toney texted Ellington and told him the Blooms family had dropped him off at his hotel and that he was on his way home. When the Bloom family arrived, Schaberg shot them from the passenger side of the car. Schaberg gave Ellington-Melissa's wallet and cell phone to be disposed of.

“Throughout our investigation, we believed that Kisha wanted to be reunited with her family,” Pollock said. “The only conclusion she came to was to kill Roger and Melissa in order to make the boys her own again. That's what she believed. That's what she told us. That was her motive.”

“The suspects had various plans to disguise themselves and hide from law enforcement,” Pollock said. “But in the end, all of their plans failed. And we were able to see through it. In fact, it helped us uncover a lot of things… and , were able to take the case to the point where no one wanted to go to trial, because what did they know? 'If they went to trial, this would be the outcome. ”
