Trump calls Hunter Biden pardon 'an abuse and miscarriage of Justice'

President-elect Trump said Sunday that President Biden's pardon of his son Hunter Biden was an “abuse of justice and a miscarriage of justice.”

“Does the pardon Joe granted Hunter include the J-6 hostage who has now been imprisoned for years? What an abuse and failure of justice!” President-Elect said in the post Truth Social appears to be referring to the mob that allegedly stormed the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack.

Biden announced early Sunday morning that he had signed a pardon for his son, insisting in a statement that the charges against him were politically motivated.

“No reasonable person considering the facts of Mr. Hunter's case could come to any other conclusion than that Mr. Hunter was chosen solely because he is my son, and that is wrong,” Biden said in a statement. “There is,” he said.

“Efforts have been made to break through Hunter's five-and-a-half years of sobriety, even in the face of relentless attacks and selective prosecution,” he added. “They tried to break Hunter, and they tried to break me too—and there's no reason to believe it'll stop here. Enough is enough.”

“The failed witch hunt against President Trump proves that Democrats are in control,” Trump's press secretary Stephen Chan said in a statement obtained by The Hill's sister network NewsNation. said. [Department of Justice] And other extremist prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system. ”

“The justice system must be fixed and due process restored for all Americans. That's what we do,” Chan added.

The president's fellow Republicans in Congress reacted with similar disdain to Biden's move to pardon his son.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement posted to social platform “I was following him,” he said.

“Not only has he never met any of his son's foreign business associates and falsely claimed that his son did nothing wrong, he has also said he will not pardon Hunter Biden. He also lied,” Comer continued.

President Trump, who has regularly said he is receiving preferential treatment over others amid Hunter Biden's federal gun trial, announced late last month that he would pardon the president's son if he wins this year's election. He said he had no intention of discounting it.

The Hill has reached out to the White House and the Department of Justice for further comment.
