The Israeli Air Force (IAF) intercepted an Iranian cargo plane loaded with weapons for Hezbollah in Syrian airspace on Sunday, forcing it to divert mid-flight, according to media reports.
era of israel reported:
An Iranian plane believed to be transporting weapons to the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force over Syria overnight from Saturday to Sunday, The Times of Israel reported.
Defense officials said International Air Force fighter jets intercepted the Iranian plane over Syria and ordered it to turn back, which it did a short time later.
…
The aircraft interception was part of Israel's efforts to prevent Iranian weapons from reaching terrorist groups in Lebanon during the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
The ceasefire approved by the Lebanese and Israeli governments took effect on Wednesday morning. Under the terms of the agreement, Hezbollah is to leave the border area and retreat north of the Litani River.
Israeli critics say Hezbollah, with Iranian support, will simply use the ceasefire to rearm. Israel said it would strongly implement ceasefire terms to prevent Hezbollah from threatening cities in northern Israel.
Critics of the Iranian regime in the region reportedly mocked Iran for the plane's diversion.
