He began his business career in 1959 with Thomson McKinnon. In 1964, at the age of 23, he became a member of the New York Stock Exchange and a partner at PR Herzig & Co.

In 1980, Kassin joined investment bank Paineweber, managing floor operations. PaineWebber was acquired by UBS in 2000.

At the time, the New York Stock Exchange floor was home to the majority of all trading activity in the United States.

Mr. Cashin is one of three senior executive floor governors and also served as a member of the Bond Club of New York. He was also a member of the high IQ organization Mensa.
