Bill Maher is ready to throw in the towel.
In Sunday's episode, His “Club Random” Podcast Recorded with guest Jane Fonda before November's presidential election, the comedian expressed fear that Donald Trump was on the verge of winning against Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I can't believe it,” Maher, 68, said, adding that he was “upset” that Trump would become the 47th president of the United States.
Maher said he “might quit” his HBO talk show because he doesn't want to discuss President Trump and his policies for “another four years.”
“I'm the one who did Trump,” he said. “I did everything about Trump before anyone else. I called him a fraud before anyone else. I did. He's a mafia boss. He's going to concede the election. I said no. I did it.”
In the cartoon, Fonda, 86, asks why Trump is not actively “hostile” to her, but is “hostile” to Jimmy Kimmel.
“He is very hostile towards me. He tweets about me every week,” Maher claimed. “Every week he would accidentally watch my show and then… [writes]“low evaluation, lose.”
Fonda then told Maher to change lanes and choose a new topic to talk about on “Real Time with Bill Maher” rather than discuss Trump.
“The show is politics. Nothing else, he's going to dominate the news as usual,” he replied.
President Trump has strongly expressed his distaste for Maher, calling him a “disorganized mess” whose show “questions the ratings.”
“Real Time with Bill Maher” first aired in 2003 and features the comedian discussing the current political climate with several guests.
In March, Maher's HBO show was renewed for two more seasons, to run through the end of 2026.
Maher has not been shy about making his feelings about Trump public, but vowed to avoid “pre-hating” the president-elect and his administration.
“They call themselves 'disruptors,'” Maher said last month. “This country needs chaos. So this country needs colonialism and a slap in the face.”
“Do I have really good, optimistic feelings about it? No, I don't. I'm not going to be pre-disgusting. I can't get into that mind.[set]. Let's see what the destroyer can do. Because, frankly, the experts say, it's like leaving something alone for too long and now it's just sclerosis and constipation. ”
“Let's see what happens,” he added.
