Trumps picks former Sen. David Perdue as ambassador to China

President-elect Trump has appointed former Georgia senator David Perdue (Republican) as ambassador to China.

“Tonight, I am announcing that former United States Senator David Perdue has accepted my nomination to be the next United States Ambassador to the People's Republic of China,” President Trump said. post Thursday on Truth Social.

Perdue served in the Senate from 2015 to 2021 and served on both the Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees. He ran for governor of Georgia in 2021 and received the support of President Trump.

In 2021, Perdue said he would support objecting to electoral votes if he remained in the Senate, suggesting he intended to go back in time, which drew praise from Trump and said, David is a great man and a patriot.”

“He will be instrumental in implementing my strategy to maintain peace in the region and in achieving a productive working relationship with Chinese leaders. David is a loyal supporter and friend. and I look forward to working with him in his new role,” Trump wrote in the post.

After a runoff election in January 2021, Jon Ossoff (Democrat) defeated Perdue to win the Georgia Senate seat.
