International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach will work with President-elect Donald Trump on the 2028 Los Angeles Games, putting aside past bad blood between the two.
President-elect Trump will be the first president to lead the Summer Olympics since Bill Clinton in 1996, and coincidentally the first Republican president since Ronald Reagan in 1984, when they were held in Los Angeles. Trump and IOC President Bach have a somewhat rocky history dating back to 2017, when they met with the aim of hosting the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. At the time, Bach had no idea that the events that would lead to Trump's second term in office would take place and that he would be on the path to becoming president at the Los Angeles convention.
“Please pray for our world,” Bach said by cell phone after meeting with President Trump in Washington, D.C.
At a press conference after the IOC executive board meeting in Switzerland this week, Bach had nothing but kind words to say about the incoming president.
“We are very confident in the measures and efforts that are currently being taken,” Bach said. “We also saw that President-elect Trump has repeatedly expressed support for the Olympics, and we never had any doubts because he expressed this support from the beginning.”
Bach also said Olympic leaders feel “very confident and relaxed” about working with Trump.

“As part of his presidency, Trump has promised to ban transgender athletes from women's sports and has expressed opposition to the participation of boxers Imane Kelif and Lin Yuting. Both had failed gender eligibility tests at previous international competitions,” FOX News noted. “Bach himself defended Kerif and Yutin's participation in the gold medal bid, as well as the IOC.”
