MSNBC host Nicole Wallace said Monday on “Deadline” that the people who voted for President-elect Donald Trump don't care about the pain mass deportations will cause some immigrants.
“I think people really need to understand that this is going to be a horrible thing that will tear people out of their communities,” said Lee Geraint, deputy director of the ACLU's Immigrant Rights Project. will likely be sent to a country they have never set foot in. There will be no testing of people who may face torture or persecution. One is that when Nicole hears about this, it doesn't affect our family or anyone we know, especially in President Trump's first term, when people say, “Oh, they're going to be there.'' I can't tell you how many times I've gotten calls saying, “I never thought they'd target this person or that person or the custodian at my son's school or someone so nice.” If we are truly talking about mass deportations, we are talking about people who have contributed to our economy and society over the long term, not just serious criminals and national security threats. ”
“What many, if not all, people who voted for President Trump can say is, 'This doesn't affect me,'” Wallace said. This won't hurt me. I don't feel sad when this happens. ” And again, countries need borders, and President Obama has deported more people than any president in American history. This has traditionally not been a left-right issue. I think some people in Obama's circles would describe this as an order issue, but the border is self-imposed. ”
She added, “Before President Trump, no one had thought of child separation policies this bad. In fact, President Trump overturned it with his signature on the Resolve Desk. But this is what we do. The idea that there is. That's another thing that rumbles.”
