Former President Clinton said he is open to discussing the possibility of a preemptive pardon for his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with President Biden.
Bill Clinton appeared on “The View” Wednesday to talk about President-elect Trump, who takes office early next year, and his threat to go after political opponents during his second term.
“Do you think it would be wise for President Biden to pre-emptively pardon potential targets? What about your wife, Hillary Clinton?” host Sunny Hostin asked. Highlighted by Mediaite.
“If President Biden wants to talk to me about it, I think he'll talk about it, but I don't think he should publicly advise on the pardon power,” Bill Clinton said. “It’s very personal, but I hope so.” [Trump] I won't do that. ”
Mr. Biden has been discussing with his executive team the idea of using pardon power to protect Mr. Trump's critics who could be targeted by the next administration.
Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 election, has been in the spotlight for years. Her husband, a former president, said that while President Trump and his allies have had issues with her over this election, she has done nothing wrong.
“They have a problem with her because, number one, she did nothing wrong. Number two, she followed exactly the rules as written. Number three…in 2016. Remember when email became a big deal? President Trump's State Department discovered that there was absolutely zero evidence that Hillary was sending or receiving classified emails on her personal device. It was a fabricated phone conversation. ” he said.
In another recent interview, former President Clinton blamed “mainstream media” coverage of his wife's email controversy for his 2016 presidential loss.
