Pro-Palestinian protesters taunted Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for more than a minute during a book tour event in New York City.
The heckling appeared to embarrass Pelosi, who appears to be disliked by the most radical wing of the Democratic Party.
“Don't worry about that. I'm from San Francisco. I'm used to this,” Pelosi told the crowd. “The press will all say they got in my way, so they'll get what they want.”
Some attendees verbally attacked Pelosi for supporting Israel.
The noise from the jeers and audience became so loud that the screams of the demonstrators could barely be heard.
“Nancy, I'm glad you're against the Iraq war, but you're not against it…” one person said before being drowned out.
“Children are dying in Gaza,” said another. newsweek reported.
Host and journalist Katie Couric, expressing displeasure with the situation, told Pelosi that she would suspend the event until the protesters were controlled.
“I'll wait a moment while you read more,” she said with a smile, shielding her eyes from the light with her hands.
The moment ended with audience applause, apparently as the protesters were removed from the room.
