Screwball car thief steals pricey Rolls-Royce but crashes through Checkers drive-through: ‘Not too fun’

This was an expensive drive thru.

A 21-year-old Florida man stole a luxury Rolls Royce from a Fort Lauderdale beach resort and smashed its expensive wheels into a Checkers fast food restaurant. WTVJ-TV News reported.

Malik Patterson took off behind the wheel outside the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort just after 2 a.m. Wednesday and was found by police a short time later, authorities said.

Fort Lauderdale police did not attempt to pursue the stolen white Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but Patterson allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a restaurant on Broward Boulevard, the newspaper reported. Ta.

The restaurant was open, and police said no one was injured in the incident.

“I'm not shocked at all,” the restaurant owner told WTVJ on condition of anonymity. “This is a Rolls-Royce, and people like to steal things and have a little fun driving around.

“But this fun ride is not so much fun for this person because he is trapped and the car is broken down,” the owner said. “What do you plan on doing?”

Malik Patterson, 21, is being held in the Broward County Jail on a $5,000 bond on a charge of vehicular grand theft.

According to dealer listings, Cullinans typically sell for more than $400,000 and can go up to $500,000 with extras and accessories.

Police said officers took Patterson into custody near the wrecked Rolls.

He is being held in the Broward County Jail on a $5,000 bond on the grand theft auto charge, awaiting a court appearance, according to online records.

He has outstanding warrants in Florida and California, according to news outlets.

Police have not released details about the theft of the car from the Hilton parking lot.
