Eric Adams says he and Trump 'border czar' have same immigration goal after meeting

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said after a meeting in the Big Apple on Thursday that he shares the same immigration goals as President-elect Trump's “border czar” Tom Homan.

“This cannot be a safe haven for violent people,” he later added.

Adams said the city will protect the rights of immigrants who “work hard and give back to the city in a real way.”

Thursday's meeting, requested by Adams, came after New York's mayor had previously expressed concern about the presence of undocumented immigrants with criminal records in the city. Just over a month ago, President Trump nominated Homan, the former head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to serve as “border czar” during his second term in the White House.

Trump has said he will focus his 2024 presidential campaign on cracking down on illegal immigration, launching the largest deportation operation in the country's history.

After his meeting with Adams, Homan said in an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw that the incoming administration would carry out a “targeted enforcement” operation.

“This is not like neighborhood cleanup or military vehicles passing through the city,” Homan said. said on Thursday. “I told him that President Trump and I have promised that this will be a targeted enforcement operation.”

“We agree on the most important points: criminals need to be taken off the streets to protect our communities, and children need to be established safe from sex trafficking and forced labor. There is,” Homan added.
