Half in US 'not at all confident' in Trump ability to choose qualified Cabinet members: Survey

Many Americans have no confidence in President-elect Donald Trump's ability to nominate qualified people for his next Cabinet and key roles in his administration, a new survey finds.

Associated Press/NORC Research Center poll; Friday release55 percent of the public has “some” or “not at all” confidence in President Trump's choices. Another 27% said they were “very” or “extremely confident” in the president-elect's ability to choose the right people for a second term.

By party, 87% of Democrats and 46% of independents said they were “somewhat” or “not at all confident” in his ability to select high-quality candidates. About 58% of Republicans said no, according to the survey.

Just over half of respondents also lacked confidence in President Trump's ability to effectively manage the White House (52%), military (54%) and government spending (52%), according to the survey results.

Democrats have the largest share of skeptics, with more than 80% having some or no confidence in the president-elect's ability to handle problems. Just over 40% of independents came to a similar conclusion, according to the data.

At the other end of the political spectrum, about 6 in 10 Republican voters have very or very high confidence in the next commander-in-chief's ability to effectively oversee government spending, the military, and run the White House. The survey results revealed that.

The AP-NORC poll was conducted Dec. 5-9 among 1,251 adults. The margin of error was 3.7 percentage points.
