In what was a memorable first half for the 76ers, their biggest star was hit by another injury.
Joel Embiid, who was ejected after the second quarter of Friday's 121-107 loss to the Pacers, was diagnosed with a sinus fracture.
The team announced that Embiid will be reevaluated over the weekend.
The timing of his return has not yet been announced.
In the final seconds of the first half, Pacers forward Benedict Mathurin went for a rebound to catch his own mistake and unintentionally hit Embiid in the face.
Embiid went to the floor and eventually walked away with a towel over his face.
He did not return to the game, finishing with 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds in 17 minutes.
The year began with Embiid dealing with knee issues that kept him off the court until November.
He also received a three-game suspension for shoving a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist.
Overall, he has played in just six games this year, and the 76ers are struggling in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-16 record.
In November, Embiid slammed critics who voiced concerns about his durability.
He revealed in April that he had suffered two orbital fractures in the past and was battling mild Bell's palsy.
“I broke my face twice. I came back early at the risk of losing my eyesight.” Embiid told reporters Friday. “…When I see people saying he doesn't want to play, I've done too much for this city, so I'm putting myself at risk for people to say that. I think it's bullshit…I've done too much for this shitty city to be treated like this.''
