With the rise of craft beer and breweries across America, the question often arises: “Should I let my kids be present at the brewery?”
A TikTok video shared in 2024 went viral after user Clarice Burkett asked others, “If a business's main source of income is age-restricted products, why not?”
Burkett, who lives in Florida, said he understands that some breweries are “catering to a more family atmosphere.” However, she stated that as a patron she would have known this in advance and expected to see children or would avoid such establishments.

However, this is not always the case.
“Let me use a real-life example,” she said. She said there is a brewery nearby with a “great outdoor space.”

“So, naturally, I asked the bartender if there were any yard games,” she said. “He looked at me and said, 'Yes, there was a corn hole, but the kids destroyed it, so it's not there anymore.'
She said the brewery “only makes money from beer and merchandise,” and there is no kitchen or restaurant on site.
Mead, an alcohol commonly known as mead, is “the history of the liquid in the glass.''
“There's nothing for kids to do at this brewery,” she said. “There is nothing for children to consume. What do children do when they are bored? Children make a mess.”
She continued: “I just don't understand the thought process behind this, especially when it's disturbing other patrons of the facility.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to Burkett for comment.

Users on TikTok and other social media platforms were divided on the complaint.
One TikTok user said in response to Burkett's video: “I have children and I hate seeing them in adult spaces.”
“Everything isn't for everyone. I don't want to have adult conversations.” [and] I hear children screaming. ”

Another TikTok user said, “I have two kids and I agree with you 100%. I'm so happy that my husband and I can't play cornhole because the kids run with the bags.” I’m frustrated. I walk on the board.”
The person added: “Get a babysitter!!!”

People from other parts of the world defended the practice, pointing out that in their countries it is common for children to be present where alcohol is served.
“Parents can enjoy a meal with a beer, and kids can join in the social gathering. In Spain, they build playgrounds next to bars,” said a TikTok user.

The concept of children playing near bars is not new in Europe, one social media source said. (St. Petersburg)
Another user said: “I get that, but this is a very American way of thinking. In Europe you take your kids to pubs and bars.”

Another Reddit user said seeing families with children at breweries was “common but annoying” and said he saw an innovative approach to the problem.
User “Brewer1056” said of the venue, “The venue near me has a sign that says, 'Children must be within arm's reach at all times,' and they enforce that.”

“Hey, I'm with you. There are times and places for kids and breweries aren't one of them. It's like a dog on a plane,” another user said.
User “bops4bo'' said, “If the dog behaves well, it will get over it, but if it misbehaves, the owner (parent) is just selfishly causing trouble to other people.''
