A group of neighbors in the border city of Reynosa in Tamaulipas state severely beat a man who they said broke into their home. The rioters beat the man and tied him to a telephone pole before calling emergency services. The man died a short time later from his injuries.
The incident occurred this week in the Valle Soleado neighborhood on Reynosa's southeast side, after neighbors called 911 to request an ambulance. Paramedics arrived at the scene and found a man covered in blood tied to a utility pole. They rushed the man to a local hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
Investigators from the Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office were dispatched to the city's general hospital to begin investigating the assault. According to information provided by authorities to Breitbart Texas, the victim arrived at a local store and robbed it. The store owners tried to fight the men off, and neighbors saw what was happening and rushed to their aid, punching the man repeatedly.
The retaliation comes as the city of Reynosa is plagued by a number of violent crimes. As Breitbart Texas reported, Reynosa is the center of a fierce turf war between rival factions of the Gulf Cartel. This turf war led to a dramatic increase in gunfights, targeted killings, kidnappings, armed robberies, car robberies, extortion, and several other violent crimes. Violence has reached dramatic levels, with the US Consulate General in Matamoros issuing a travel warning after cartels repeatedly kidnapped US tourists from passenger buses. Rather than combat the escalating violence head-on, the Tamaulipas state government has sought to de-escalate the severity of the situation, sometimes outright denying or lying while claiming the region is safe.
