Two men were arrested Saturday night after they allegedly flew a drone dangerously close to the airspace of Boston's Logan International Airport.
Boston police arrested two people on one of the Boston Harbor Islands around 10:20 p.m. According to Boston Police. The two individuals captured were identified as Robert Duffy, 42, and Jeremy Forcik, 32, both of Massachusetts.
The third suspect is believed to have fled the island “in a small boat,” Boston police said.
Boston police first spotted the drone near Logan around 4:30 p.m. that day. Using advanced technology, they were able to track the drone's location, altitude, and flight history.
The technology also located the operator and sent a ping to Long Island, one of the Boston Harbor Islands.
Boston's drone investigation was an all-hands-on-deck situation following recent drone anomalies across the Northeast.
The Department of Homeland Security, Massachusetts State Police, Joint Terrorism Task Force, Federal Communications Commission, and Logan Airport Air Traffic Control all came together to deal with the drone.
“Even small drones pose significant risks, including the potential for catastrophic damage to planes and helicopters. A near collision could throw the pilot off course, putting life and property at risk. ,” Boston police said in a statement.
While numerous other authorities coordinated, members of the Boston Police Harbor Patrol headed to the defunct Long Island Health Campus, an old medical school that closed in 2014.

They arrested Duffy and Forcik and may be charged with trespassing, but additional fines and charges could be filed later in the investigation. Police said a drone was also recovered from Duffy's backpack during the investigation.
Drone sightings have been reported in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, but their purpose and origin remain unclear.
In just one month, nearly 1,000 drone sightings have been reported in New Jersey. The Garden State has become a drone hotspot, and last week's chaos began when a drone was spotted hovering over Monmouth County.
Authorities are trying to fight back, but with no indication of the source, their efforts are largely in vain. It was initially suspected that the message came from a “mother ship” off the East Coast, but the White House denied this.
