NYC mayor says he won't be 'warring' with Trump

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said Sunday he has no intention of “fighting” with President-elect Trump.

But Adams said in an interview on MSNBC's “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart” that there is no connection between the federal indictment and his lenient attitude toward the president-elect. .

When asked if there was a connection between the two, Adams said: “Absolutely not.” “Listen, I did nothing wrong. I've said it over and over again. I never should have been targeted in the first place. I've said it over and over again. But I think it's becoming more and more clear that some of the things that are going on at the Department of Justice are like putting parents on the FBI's watch list just for standing up for their children.

Adams said he will approach the incoming administration the same way he approached the Biden administration.

“Let me be clear: I have asked…the current president, President Biden, to come to New York City to help me address gun violence in 2022.” arrived in New York City and met with the police department. “I met with “his team multiple times in several efforts,'' Adams said.

“I feel the same way about the next president. I have no intention of going to war with this president. “I'm going to work with this president,” he said.

Adams countered claims that his lenient attitude toward the president-elect reflected a desire to obtain a pardon from President Trump, saying, “I have not communicated with the president about pardons.” .

Asked whether Trump is seeking to be appointed as the top prosecutor in the Southern District of New York to get the charges against him dropped, or if his allies are trying to get him to drop the charges against him, Adams said: “That's my responsibility.'' Not,” he said.

“I have a lawyer who will explore every avenue to pursue this unwarranted attack against me. They will handle it, that's why I have a legal team. My job is to , as mentioned before, is to run New York City, and And from the day we learned about these allegations, our city continues to move in the right direction and people are excited about how well we're doing in this city. So leave the legal aspects to the lawyers.”
