Trump names Herschel Walker as ambassador to Bahamas

President-elect Trump on Tuesday announced the appointment of Herschel Walker, a former NFL player and Georgia state Senate candidate, as ambassador to the Bahamas.

“For decades, Herschel has served as an ambassador to our nation's youth, military men and women, and national and international athletes,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

President Trump noted that Walker previously co-chaired the White House Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition during his first term.

Walker was a renowned running back at the University of Georgia and won the Heisman Trophy. He went on to play in the NFL.

President Trump has endorsed Walker in the 2022 Georgia Senate race, aiming to unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.). Neither candidate received 50% of the vote in the general election, and Warnock defeated Walker in the run-off. However, Walker's campaign was plagued by controversy; false statement.

Trump quipped in early November, before Election Day, that if elected, he would appoint Walker to lead the new missile defense shield.
