The Hornets turned into the Grinch and literally took away a child’s Christmas present

there was a lot There are plenty of bad moves by sports organizations when it comes to prizes and skits, but the Charlotte Hornets may have topped them this week. On Monday, the Hornets played against the 76ers, which included an on-court segment featuring mascot Hugo. appeared To give the PS5 to a kid, all he had to do was go backstage and take it away from him and exchange it for a jersey.

Everything seemed fine on court, but apparently after the boy went backstage, the team thanked him for participating in the “skit” and took away his PS5. This is honestly coming from a billion dollar organization that led this kid to believe they were given a gaming console.

In response to public outcry, the Hornets released the following statement:

There was an on-court skit during last night's game that missed the mark. This skit involved poor decision making and poor communication. Simply put, I apologize for turning the ball over. We stay in touch with families and are committed to not only providing them with the right thing, but exceeding their expectations. We're giving our fans the PS5 they were supposed to take home last night, along with a VIP experience of future games. Our goal is to improve the guest experience for everyone who enters Spectrum Center and show our fans how much we appreciate their continued support.

I'm glad he got his PS5 back, but somehow this is way more Grinch-like than I expected. I think it's great that the Hornets are giving him a VIP experience, but the way Charlotte is playing, it might just be a lump of coal in his stocking.
