Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was spotted wandering into Mar-a-Lago late Wednesday night to have dinner with President-elect Donald Trump.
Mr. Bezos attended his first dinner with Mr. Trump since the soon-to-be 47th president was re-elected, along with his fiancée Lauren Sanchez.
Trump said last week that Bezos would visit his Florida mansion.
The billionaire is just one of several technology executives hoping to curry favor with President Trump before he takes office. Mr. Bezos had told Mr. Trump's team that he would donate $1 million to his startup fund. According to the Wall Street Journal.
The relationship between Trump and Bezos has been rocky in recent years, with the tech mogul's newspaper The Washington Post refusing to endorse a candidate in the 2024 election, breaking its tradition of usually supporting Democrats. It seemed to have improved since I broke it.
In an interview at the New York Times' Dealbook Summit in New York earlier this month, Bezos said he was “optimistic” about President Trump's second term.
“I'm actually very optimistic this time,” Bezos said. “He seems to have a lot of energy for reducing regulations. If I can help with that, I'm going to help him.”
“There are too many regulations in this country,” Bezos added.
President Trump also said he is open to rebuilding relationships with business leaders as he prepares for his second term.
“I want to get ideas from them” about his relationships with business leaders, Trump said last week after being named Time magazine's “Person of the Year” and ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
“Look, we want them to do well.”
Other technology leaders who have expressed a willingness to work with Trump include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who also plans to donate $1 million, and TikTok's CEO, who also met with the president-elect this week. CEO) Shou Zhi Chiu is also included.
