Grandson of tennis legend Bobby Riggs arrested over disturbing sexual accusations

The grandson of tennis legend Bobby Riggs was arrested Tuesday at the Lauderdale Tennis Club and charged with enticement of a minor and production of child pornography. According to Local10.com.

The Justice Department said social media “records” indicate there may be multiple victims.

According to Local 10, Riggs met the underage girl in 2020 when she was 15 years old and was her tennis coach, but began molesting her in 2021 for almost three years.

The Justice Department alleges Riggs sexually abused minors while traveling domestically and internationally for training and tournaments, and that “the abuse continued locally in the Southern District of Florida.”

According to Local 10, Riggs allegedly solicited child sexual abuse material through Snapchat and also engaged in sexual conversations with minors through social media applications.

He is also suspected of creating multiple anonymous profiles and advising minors to block their communications.

“On another occasion in Brazil, an underage victim 1 went to RIGGS' room, where, according to Local 10, Riggs told the underage victim 1 to take further action due to the potential repercussions. “He stated that he did not feel he should engage in the act (referring to a sexual act),” the criminal complaint states.

Riggs' pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. ET, and the case was investigated by the Miami FBI and Broward Sheriff's Office.

Bobby is best remembered for losing to Billie Jean King in 1973's “Battle of the Sexes.”

He won Wimbledon and the US Open in 1939, and the US Open in 1941.

Bobby passed away in 1995 at the age of 77.
