A 20-year-old blind black and white cat was rescued from a frozen pond in Massachusetts this week in what authorities called “nothing short of a miracle.”
Tiki, who likes to roam outdoors, was seen on floating ice Monday before falling into Lake Navnasset in Westford.
Passersby and several nearby construction workers rushed to the scene and rescued the cat.

“There was a crackling sound and it was like hysterics,” passerby Dawn Fellicani told The Associated Press on Thursday. “And all of a sudden it fell down! Its little head stuck out! I'm in tears and freaking out.”
Felicani called first responders and local animal control officers. Two construction workers from a nearby home, identified by Westford Animal Control as Chris and Nate, boarded a rowboat to respond.
“Nate jumped onto a nearby rowboat and Chris pushed the boat as far as he could and helped Nate navigate away from shore,” an animal control news release said. “Nate was able to use a shovel and break through the ice while on the move.”

“He quickly approached the cat and pulled it out of the water just before it was certain to die from the frigid cold,” the agency added. “The cat was taken indoors, toweled off and wrapped in a blanket.”
Officials said Tiki was in shock and taken to a veterinarian, where he was shaking and tired. His temperature was very low and didn't show up on the thermometer.
Tiki's owner, John Arden, told authorities that Tiki may have gone out in the early morning hours last night.
“We believe Tiki was chased onto the ice by a predator last night and became stuck on the ice floating straight across the lake overnight,” Animal Control said. Ta.
