The Georgia Court of Appeals has disbarred Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the case against Donald Trump.
“After carefully considering the trial court's findings, we conclude that it erred in not disqualifying Prosecutor Willis and his office,” the appeals court said.
Georgia's Court of Appeals has disbarred Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from election-related criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump, but the charges remain.
Trump and his co-defendants were indicted in 2023 by Willis' office, accusing them of plotting to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 Georgia election. They pleaded not guilty.
However, Willis' case hit a snag in early 2024 when it was revealed that she had been romantically involved with then-special prosecutor Nathan Wade. A Fulton County judge ruled in March that Willis could remain as prosecutor if Wade resigns, after which Wade also resigned.
Mr. Trump and several co-defendants appealed the judge's decision to the Georgia Court of Appeals, which ruled against Mr. Willis on the morning of December 19th.
“After careful consideration of the trial court's findings, we conclude that it erred in not disqualifying Attorney Willis and his office,” the Georgia Court of Appeals said in its decision.
Donald Trump praised the ruling, calling it “absolutely dead.”
