Surprising photos reveal that a barred owl descended from the chimney of a home in Arlington, Virginia, and made its very own seasonal perch atop a Christmas tree.

The photo, which has gone viral online, shows a nocturnal visitor glaring at the camera with dark eyes like the ghost of Christmas past.
The feathery invader turned the Christmas star upside down to make room for its large hind legs.
“I walked into the kitchen and there was a giant owl sitting in a baby high chair,” homeowner Savannah Burgoyne said. NBC Washington.

The owl was removed from the home by local authorities and released back into the wild.
