Sen.-elect John Curtis (R-Utah) said Sunday on ABC's “This Week” that he has no qualms about speaking out when he disagrees with President-elect Donald Trump.
“It's very important to me that President Trump is successful. I want to see him be very successful and I'm going to support him when he talks about inflation and the economy and things like that,” Curtis said. But that doesn't mean I don't have moments where I disagree with him, and it's very important to me and to my constituents that I feel comfortable speaking up. I think so.”
He added, “I think the president will be a better president if I speak up and act openly. And now I'm interviewing these candidates, and people are asking for advice and… I think you forgot the advice part of the agreement. I have discussed it thoroughly with these people. If I didn't research everything about them, if I didn't learn their strengths and weaknesses, I wouldn't be able to advise the president. And I think that's because of the president. I think the better he does, the better president he'll be.”
Mr Curtis added: “And Mr. President, sometimes I will disagree with you, and that will be respectful. And I think it will be helpful when I disagree with you. And if you listen to me… I would appreciate it if you could.”
