Argentine authorities continue to investigate Liam Payne's death and will interview his grieving girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who left the country just two days before the One Direction star's death.
The newspaper has learned that authorities have contacted Cassidy and asked him to provide witness statements to assist in the investigation.
Authorities have confirmed to the newspaper that Cassidy is not accused of any wrongdoing, but they hope she can explain what happened to the 31-year-old singer, who died during a visit to Buenos Aires. I am doing it.
“She's going to do everything she can,” said a friend of the 25-year-old influencer. “She wants the right people to be brought to justice, and if that requires answering their questions, she will do that.”
“Obviously, there's no reason why she wouldn't cooperate,” the friend continued. “She has been trying to help him get clean for a long time and is still haunted by what happened. She says whoever supplied drugs to Liam should be prosecuted.”
Payne died on Oct. 16, when she fell from a hotel balcony minutes after being dragged unconscious through the lobby.
An autopsy revealed that the “For You” singer had a toxic cocktail of drugs in her system, including so-called “pink cocaine,” a mixture of crack and ketamine with other drugs.
Argentine police have charged three people in the investigation into the singer's death.
According to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecution Service's 14th Bureau, they are facing charges including “derelict corpse and causing death” and “supplying and abetting drugs.”
The first person to be charged was Rogelio “Roger” Nolles, a close friend of Payne who was with Payne “every day” during his stay in Buenos Aires. According to the Public Prosecutors Office.
The second defendant is Brian Nahuel Paiz, a former waiter at the Casasul Palermo Hotel. Authorities say Payne is suspected of selling cocaine during his stay, but Payne denies any wrongdoing.
The third man, described only as a “drug supplier”, is said to have supplied the man with drugs on two separate occasions on October 14, two days before the fatal crash.
They hope Cassidy can fill in the gaps in information they know about Payne's two-week stay at the hotel as authorities look to strengthen their case against the trio.
“She's happy that they're taking this investigation very seriously,” her friend said. “This has devastated countless people and if she can help in any way she will. It's the least she can do.”
