Mario Lopez ‘not ashamed’ of faith in Hollywood

Mario Lopez puts his beliefs first.

Since coming into the spotlight as a child star in the '90s, Lopez spoke to Fox News Digital about how she's relied on her faith while working in Hollywood.

“My faith is very important to me and I'm speaking out about it…I'm not ashamed,” said Lopez, 51.

The “Saved by the Bell” actor and his wife Courtney have three children and said their faith is an integral part of their family's foundation.

“My children are being raised with a faith-based education. They all attend Catholic schools,” he explained. “It's our family infrastructure and I'm proud of it.”

Lopez became famous for his role as AC Slater on the 90's show Saved by the Bell. The first episode premiered on August 20, 1989 on NBC.

“As I got older, I started to put on more mental muscle,” he told FOX News Digital.

“I don't think it's a coincidence that things are going so well for me because of that. So I feel very lucky and very grateful for that.”

The “Access Hollywood” host has been vocal about his faith and religion, especially on social media.

Recently, Lopez shared a video of herself finishing a “beautiful” Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.

His Instagram caption read, “What a blessing to end the week here in New York…”

Lopez frequently posts quotes related to her faith on social media, sending meaningful messages about her priorities in life.

“When you reach a certain age, all you really want is God, family, stability, and peace,” he shared on social media.

In 2018, the Mexican-American actor was “baptized in the same river as Jesus…” 10 days before Easter.

Wearing a long white T-shirt and white pants, Lopez announced that he had been baptized in the Jordan River, which he described at the time as an “emotional” experience.

The video shows Lopez being led into the river by two Catholic priests.

One of the priests can be heard asking Lopez questions such as, “Do you believe in Jesus Christ?” and “Are you going to serve him for the rest of your life?”

He answered every question with a confident “Yes, that's right.”

Lopez, who has spent most of her life in the public eye, has spoken out about how she avoided the “child star curse.”

The actor credited his upbringing to his parents and admitted that he did not want to disobey his father. He also wanted to make his parents proud and shared that they set the best example for him.

As for what's changed the most about being a celebrity between the '90s and now, Lopez pointed out that it's “social media.”

“I'm glad it didn't happen when I was there. If it were me, I would have been pinched all over the place…worried about getting arrested or how certain photos tell a different story of reality. I did it.”

Lopez celebrated this holiday season by starring in his first Great American Family film, Once Upon a Christmas, with his wife Courtney and 11-year-old son Dominic.

“I thought what better way to start this relationship than with a project with an actual family and a very talented wife,” he continued.

“We met on Broadway. We got to show off all her skills… We sang and danced… We felt the romance. Son Dominic did a great job and was really impressed. And there was a lot of heart in this movie.''I'm really happy with the result. ”

He met his wife in 2008 when they co-starred in the Broadway musical “A Chorus Line.”

However, working with a spouse isn't always easy, and Mario admitted there are some challenges.

“I think the biggest challenge is still having to juggle the balance between my husband and my co-workers,” Mario told FOX News Digital.

In the heartwarming holiday movie, Mario plays Mayor Brian Ortega, who discovers his childhood Christmas wish list. Returning to town for Christmas is Brian's childhood friend Nina Meyers, played by Courtney, and the two strike up a romantic relationship.

In real life, the actor duo has been together for the past 15 years and recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary.

Lopez also joins the talent list for the first-ever Great American Family Christmas Festival, which includes “Full House” star Candace Cameron Bure and “Wonder Years” star Danica McKellar. Bure will become chief creative officer of Great American Family Channel in 2022.
