Taxi smashes into pedestrians at NYC tourist hot spot on Christmas Day

At least six people were injured when a taxi plowed into a group of pedestrians in crowded New York City on Christmas Day at the iconic tourist attraction.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to FOX News Digital that a taxi hit a group of pedestrians in Herald Square at Sixth Avenue and West 34th Street just after 4 p.m.

Police said the taxi driver was identified as a 58-year-old man. They did not share the cause of the conflict.

Six patients in various conditions were taken to local hospitals for treatment, police said.

Officials said a 9-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with lacerations to his leg. A 41-year-old woman was taken to hospital with head injuries and a 49-year-old woman was taken to hospital with leg injuries.

The others refused further medical treatment after the accident, police said.

Herald Square, where Broadway, 6th Avenue, and 34th Street meet, is a popular tourist destination, especially during the holiday season.

Police said no one was arrested after the accident and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
